South Africa is rapidly reaching the forefront of science and technology advancement and has the potential to become a rich source of scientific expertise. This will only be possible if the system is sustained with a healthy supply of learners whose interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is guided by equally passionate educators and learners. Capricorn Educational Resource Centre offers a number of science and mathematics programmes for learners in rural areas with the aim to identify talent, enhancing knowledge and understanding of STEM. The programmes will contribute to the overall high performance of learners enrolled in science streams, technical skills thus leading to increased enrollment of STEM related careers post matric, and eradication of SA triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality. To achieve our mandate, we offer the following support programmes:
o Saturday Classes to improve learner performance in physicals science, mathematics and life sciences
o Hands-on experiments to demonstrate classroom exercises
o Structured science clubs to offer one-on-one support and mentorship
o Robotics workshops to expose learners to a new technological world
o Expose learners to science and engineering institutions
o Assist learners with tertiary enrollment and bursary applications
